This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

This is a QotW answer While we're killing time
Might as well ask:

Anyone know how to go about belt selection for use with motors?

This is a QotW comment What kind of motor
And what kind of belt?
toothed? V? smooth? ribbed?

RPM,
Stop/Start frequency?
Torque.
Pulley sizes?
lifetime requirements,
ambient temperature and humidity?

c'mon... you've got to supply a FEW bits of info.. :D

This is a QotW comment Well
I wasn't really expecting a reply.

Motor Rpm - 10,000
Pulley RPM - 2,000
Moderate use - home treadmill
Motor pulley - either 25 or 50mm
Other pulley - 142mm
lifetime - doesn't hugely matter
usual household temperature and humidity
and V belt I do believe

EDIT: Series Shunt motor, 1.49 kW

This is a QotW comment Tres helpful
I honestly wish it really was that easy.

This is a QotW comment Well as you're not going toothed on it...
... Nip down to your nearest motor-factors and see what they have. You want a bog-standard fan-belt or alternator belt. Sturdy, cheap and easily capable to delivering the forces you're talking about. They should have a huge array of sizes available.

Otherwise I'd have sent you looking for Aratron...

...also slightly useful.

This is a QotW comment Well
You lost me somewhere near the start, and then I laughed at the word bog.

I'm actually headed out near one soon, so I might stop in and see.

Cheers.
